While waiting for The Elders to arrive, the sister's patience is growing thin as they keep a watchful eye on their new charge. Once one of The Elders, Charity, appears, she gives specific instructions on how to handle the situation. Mel does not agree with the solution and enlists Maggie, Macy and Harry's help, but it means going against The Elders. Macy, Mel and Maggie are all starting to realize that juggling their two worlds is becoming more difficult.
In 2018, it has become very difficult to keep up with every television show out there. It's even more difficult to provide adequate coverage on this site about the episodes that air every week. Not every show can get full coverage because of my busy and hectic viewing schedule. As such, some reviews will now be condensed to give only some summary thoughts. But it also affords a space for me to jot down my thoughts on the various episodes. And so, here are my thoughts on this week's episode of The CW's Charmed.
The Charmed Ones face their biggest moral dilemma so far here. They must weigh the value of saving one life if it means putting countless more in harm's way. They all have rational and meaningful opinions on the subject as well. Macy wants to approach things from a clinical perspective. She believes she can be objective because she hasn't been a part of this community for very long. Meanwhile, Mel sees herself as the only person who will stand up for Angela because she understands the ordeal that she has gone through. First, she was sexually harassed. Then, she overdosed on pills. And then, she was possessed by a powerful demon. The harbinger is seemingly too powerful for the sisters to exorcise. And yet, Mel feels some personal responsibility for what has happened to Angela because she was encouraging her to speak out to ensure that women's voices continued to feel empowered. Marisol was the one with the rational head who knew the kind of personal consequences that would be felt by Angela. And yes, some extreme things have been happening to her. If there is a chance of saving her, the Charmed Ones feel the obligation to at least true. That is very noble and honorable. Each of them come to that same conclusion as well. Maggie is mostly just along for the ride. She is too busy trying to maintain her academic record to ensure that she doesn't fail out of school while also saving the world. That is her responsibility even though it is causing a lot of personal problems for her as well. She kisses Parker but immediately recognizes that as a mistake and a betrayal to Lucy. Mel is struggling in her personal life too. She continues pushing Nico away because she can't share that she is a witch who must now protect the world from the supernatural threats that wish to destroy it. Of course, Nico is smart as well. She knows it's worth investigating all of the recent Halloween murders and Angela's new disappearance. But that's also what makes it so rewarding when the sisters are able to save Angela. But all of it is also played as Angela having the strength to defeat the harbinger. That may prove that this demon that foretells the apocalypse may not be as strong as everyone fears. And yet, the harbinger is still pretty dangerous especially the longer it stays in Angela. It puts an urgency to the proceedings that is very necessary. Moreover, Charity is a fascinating addition to the show. She presents as someone who can provide guidance and answers to the sisters as one of The Elders. She should be trusted because The Elders have already examined every scenario. And yet, there is also a throwaway line about Elders being killed lately. That proves that there is even more of a nefarious agenda going on in this world that has yet to be fully revealed. Even when the Charmed Ones are successfully able to save Angela and lock away the harbinger, the demon is immediately stolen from Charity by a new individual with powers. That's ominous. And finally, this action proves to have a significant cost to it as well because Detective Bailey dies simply for following his instincts. He knew that something wasn't right with the sisters' story. He investigates and is killed for it. Not only that he is framed for the other murders in town. That too may prove that The Elders aren't always the best in finding the appropriate action to take. Mel will continue to question their methods and want they are willing to risk to save the world.
