Seattle is hit by a huge wind storm and Grey Sloan becomes inundated with patients. Alex and Jo are stuck at home and decide to make the best of it by having a second honeymoon. Meredith confronts Richard about getting his life back on track.
In 2018, it has become very difficult to keep up with every television show out there. It's even more difficult to provide adequate coverage on this site about the episodes that air every week. Not every show can get full coverage because of my busy and hectic viewing schedule. As such, some reviews will now be condensed to give only some summary thoughts. But it also affords a space for me to jot down my thoughts on the various episodes. And so, here are my thoughts on this week's episode of ABC's Grey's Anatomy.
Grey's Anatomy has always done well when it comes to disaster episodes. It's even more special now because it has a spinoff that is still very connected to the original show. And so, Station 19 is dealing with this epic windstorm that hits Seattle as well. It basically ensured that both shows would be ending with cliffhangers because that's the ending that Grey's Anatomy produces here. The disaster allows a number of interesting injuries to come into the emergency room. It is mostly people who have been impaled by random objects simply because they were outside during this dangerous day. But the Christmas decorations and selfie stick are certainly memorable. It's tragic that Amelia's patient dies as soon as the selfie stick is removed. And yet, she gives hope to Cece who has been on the wait list for organs this entire season. It seemed unlikely that she would die before being able to set Meredith up with someone whom she would date for a little bit. So far, she has only had a couple of first dates. No one has really impressed her enough to get to a second date. Of course, Cece is now suggesting Link even though Meredith didn't want to date someone from work again. With his new haircut, he definitely seems like a more realistic option now as well. But DeLuca is really throwing his hat in the ring too. It's a crazy and confusing time for Meredith because she has these two guys at work who are showing romantic interest in her. Her life is already crazy enough though. She is willing to accept Link's offer for a drink. But she also turns DeLuca away for the moment simply because of everything that's happening. She's certainly not wrong for doing so. She is carrying secrets for Catherine, Richard and Teddy. Some of those secrets do come out here as well. Teddy finally tells Owen that she is pregnant. Sure, it's inappropriate that that conversation happens in the middle of a surgery. But it means that those characters can move on to whatever comes next with this particular story. Meanwhile, Richard tells Bailey about his arrest which leads to him not being able to see any patients during this disaster. And Meredith shares with Maggie that Catherine has a nasty tumor and her family is going to need as much support in the coming months. That's presented as the only real reason that Maggie and Jackson get back together as well. There is the desire to do so because they love and respect each other. But Maggie acting as the emotional crutch for Jackson to lean on because of what is going to happen could crumble this relationship as well because it would destroy her own personal agency. That remains a concern for the future though. The hour concludes with many interesting pairings getting trapped after the power goes out from the storm. Nico and Levi are stuck out in an ambulance but that already forces them to have a conversation about how dramatic the tension between them is and how they don't want it to be. Meanwhile, Meredith is stuck with DeLuca which means she'll immediately have to give some serious thought to his proposal. Teddy, Owen and Amelia are stuck together which is bound to be awkward especially since Amelia wants to formally adopt Betty as her daughter. And Cece is on the operating table with the organs unable to get to her because they are stuck with Bailey and Helm in an elevator. The show is covering all of its bases to ensure that everything remains dramatic for many of the characters heading into the midseason hiatus. As such, it should be very exciting to see the choices that are made and how people will continue to react to big, surprising news.
