David Simon (The Wire, Treme, The Deuce) is expanding his relationship with HBO once more. Today, the premium cable network has picked up his six-episode limited series The Plot Against America based on the novel of the same name by Philip Roth.
The series imagines an alternate American history told through the eyes of a working-class Jewish family in New Jersey as they watch the political rise of Charles Lindbergh, an aviator-hero and xenophobic populist, who becomes president and turns the nation toward fascism.
Simon and Ed Burns will co-write the series. They will executive produce with Joe Roth, Nina Noble, Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Susan Goldberg and Jeff Kirschenbaum. Dennis Straton will serve as a co-executive producer. Blown Deadline Productions and Annapurna Pictures will produce in association with HBO.
