Hulu has today announced the premiere date for the new original anthology series The Act starring Oscar and Emmy winner Patricia Arquette.
The seasonal anthology series will premiere on Wednesday, March 20. Unlike the streaming service's most recent binge launches, the eight-episode season will air in weekly installments.
The series explores startling, stranger-than-fiction true crime tales. The first season revolves around Gypsy Blanchard, a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother. Her quest for independence opens a Pandora's box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder.
The first season is based on Michelle Dean's BuzzFeed article "Dee Dee Wanted Her Daughter to Be Sick, Gypsy Wanted Her Mom to Be Murdered."
In addition to Arquette, the drama stars Joey King, Chloë Sevigny, AnnaSophia Robb and Calum Worthy.
Dean created the series with Nick Antosca. They executive produce with Greg Shephard, Britton Rizzio and director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre. Universal Cable Productions produces.
