Development News - February 14, 2019

ABC's The Hypnotist's Love Story; CBS' Evil; The CW's Untitled Nancy Drew; NBC's Bluff City Law; and Syfy's Cipher.

SYFY's CIPHER
  • Gabriel Bateman and Kyla-Drew Simmons have been cast as the young leads on the drama pilot written by Allison Miller. Bateman starred for one season in CBS' American Gothic and one season in Amazon's The Dangerous Book for Boys. Simmons starred for two seasons in Nickelodeon's Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn.
  • Bateman will play Asa. Following the death of his mother, his life changes yet again when he becomes the unwitting recipient of the new technology. He and his father then find themselves at the center of the next great war - over artificial intelligence.
  • Simmons will play Annie, a 16-year-old Asa meets inside a video game. She seems to know a great deal about the game but has little understanding of the complexities of human relationships or the outside world.
THE CW's UNTITLED NANCY DREW PROJECT
  • Kennedy McMann and Leah Lewis will star in the drama pilot written by Leah Lewis. Moreover, Larry Teng (Supergirl) has signed on to direct while Melinda Hsu Taylor (The Vampire Diaries) has been tapped to serve as showrunner on the potential series. McMann is a recent graduate of the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama. Lewis has previously recurred on The CW's Charmed.
  • McMann will play Nancy Drew, an 18-year-old who thought she'd be leaving her hometown for college. When a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation - and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined. When Nancy ends up a suspect in a murder, it rekindles her love for detective work, even though the clues lead her to believe that a long-dead local girl may be the killer.
  • Lewis will play George, a tough, tattooed girl from the wrong side of the tracks who felt personally wronged by Nancy in high school. She now finds herself a suspect in the killing along with her former nemesis, forcing her to team up with Nancy to track the culprit and clear their names - and it just may be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
CBS' EVIL
