During its presentation at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour today, Hulu gave series orders to two of its drama pilots - The Great starring Elle Fanning & Nicholas Hoult and Reprisal starring Abigail Spencer. Both shows will begin production this year, with Reprisal debuting in 2019 and The Great launching in 2020.
Reprisal is a hyper-kinetic revenge tale following a relentless femme fatale (Spencer) who, after being left for dead, leads a vengeful campaign against a bombastic gang of gearheads.
The drama also stars Rodrigo Santoro, Mena Massoud, Madison Davenport, Rhys Wakefield, David Dastmalchian, W. Earl Brown and Gilbert Owuor.
Josh Corbin created the drama, with Jonathan Van Tulleken directing the pilot. They will executive produce with Warren Littlefield. Ann Johnson and Graham Littlefield will serve as co-executive producers. A+E Studios and The Littlefield Company will produce.
The Great is a "genre-bending," anti-historical ride through 18th century Russia detailing the rise to power of Catherine the Great (Fanning) and her explosive relationship with her husband Peter (Hoult), the emperor of Russia.
The cast also features Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge and Sacha Dhawan.
Tony McNamara created the series, with Matt Shakman directing the pilot. They will executive produce with Fanning, Marian Macgowan, Josh Kesselman, Ron West, Brittany Kahan Ward, Doug Mankoff and Andrew Spaulding. Media Rights Capital, Echo Lake Entertainment and Thruline Entertainment will produce.
