Netflix has today picked up the eight-episode first season of the original comedy series Special created by and starring Ryan O'Connell.
Based on O'Connell's memoir I'm Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves, a gay man with mild cerebral palsy (O'Donnell) decides to rewrite his identity as an accident victim and finally go after the life he wants.
The cast also features Jessica Hecht, Punam Patel, Marla Mindelle, Augustus Prew and Patrick Fabian.
O'Connell executive produces with Jim Parsons, Eric Norsoph, Todd Spiewak, Ross Dinerstein, Ross Girard, Colin Frederick and director Anna Dokoza. Warner Bros. Television, That's Wonderful Productions and Stage 13 will produce.
The entire season will be available on the streaming service on Friday, April 12.
