Development News - March 20, 2019

ABC's Triangle, United We Fall & Untitled Hank Steinberg; CBS' The Emperor of Malibu & Our House; NBC's The Kenan Show; and TBS' Chad.

NBC's THE KENAN SHOW
  • Andy Garcia will star opposite Kenan Thompson in the comedy pilot (formerly Saving Kenan) written by Jackie Clarke. He received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the film The Godfather Part III. He also starred in the Ocean's Eleven film franchise, The Untouchables and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. He recently recurred on HBO's Ballers and appeared in the HBO film My Dinner with Hervé. He has been targeted by casting directors for the past few years to do pilots, with the NBC project being the first he has signed onto.
  • He will play Percy, Kenan's (Thompson) father-in-law and a retired police officer.
CBS' THE EMPEROR OF MALIBU
  • Deborah S. Craig has been cast on the comedy pilot starring Ken Jeong. She has previously recurred on NBC's The Blacklist and The CW's Hart of Dixie.
  • She will play Shiatzy, Auggie's mother, a terrifying force of nature who is sophisticated, a little eccentric and strong-willed. Outraged that Auggie chose his fiancée without her, she does her best to keep Kate at a distance.
ABC's UNTITLED HANK STEINBERG PROJECT
  • Dorian Missick will co-star on the drama pilot starring Nicholas Pinnock and Indira Varma. He starred for one season in BET's Zoe Ever After and one season in CBS All Access' Tell Me a Story. He has also recurred on TNT's Southland, Netflix's Luke Cage and TNT's Animal Kingdom.
  • He will play Jamal, a reformed gang-banger. Smart, fit, loyal and savvy, he is a prison inmate and Aaron's (Pinnock) best friend.
TBS' CHAD
  • Saba Homayoon, Paul Chahidi, Alexa Loo and Ella Mika have joined the cast of the comedy pilot written by and starring Nasim Pedrad. Homayoon's guest credits include CBS' The Odd Couple, ABC's Mistresses and CBS' NCIS: Los Angeles. Chahidi received a Tony Award nomination for the play Twelfth Night. Loo has appeared in Audience's Rogue and The CW's Legends of Tomorrow. Mika was featured in the Hallmark film A Wedding for Christmas.
  • Homayoon will play Naz, Chad's (Pedrad) mother, an attractive, overwhelmed by loving mother of two who is just now venturing out into the dating world after her divorce - a situation that her son is finding difficult to accept. She steps up to soothe and reassure Chad after he has an unsettling encounter with an older girl from his school.
  • Chahidi will play Hamid, a gentle, offbeat character. He is a distant relative of Naz and is living with her family to help raise the kids. He is trying his best to adapt to his adopted American culture.
  • Loo will play Su Chin, Chad and Peter's (Jake Ryan) best friend, a frail and fragile girl who gets around school in a motorized scooter and suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome. She is a quiet, dry and knowing girl who can tell when Chad is lying - which is often.
  • Mika will play Niki, Chad's younger sister, who is 11 going on 21. Confident, hip and popular - in contrast to her somewhat offbeat brother - she may bicker with Chad, but there's a hidden core of affection between these argumentative siblings.
CBS' OUR HOUSE
  • Katherine Heigl will play the female lead opposite Malcom Barrett on the comedy pilot written by Brendan O'Brien. She previously starred for six seasons in ABC's Grey's Anatomy, where she won an Emmy Award for her performance. She joined the cast of USA's Suits for its eighth season as a series regular and will return for its upcoming ninth and final season.
  • She will play Bridget, who tries her best to be a laid-back, progressive parent like her therapist husband (Barrett), but often finds herself reverting to the old-school style of her parents. Now that she's moved back into her childhood home, surrounded by her parents and crazy siblings, finding a balance between the wildly different parenting styles is going to be more difficult than she imagined.
ABC's UNITED WE FALL
  • Will Sasso and Christina Vidal are set as the leads in the comedy pilot written by Julius Sharpe. Sasso currently stars in Audience's Loudermilk, which returns for its third season later this year. He is also recurring on CBS' Mom. Vidal has recently recurred on CBS' Code Black, CBS' Limitless and Amazon's Sneaky Pete.
  • Sasso will play Bill, a confident, analytical yet funny and emotional father and husband. He and his wife, Jo, both have college degrees, great careers, and a solid, loving marriage. However, since having their second kid, they can barely make it out the door. He tries to hold it together because he loves his family more than anything, and deep down, he knows his wife is slightly too cool to be with him.
  • Vidal will play Jo, the youngest of ten siblings, who is not a "traditional" mom. Although she is a strong female role model for her kids, she's cool, sarcastic and does things her own way, often bringing her into conflict with other parents and her own extended family.
ABC's TRIANGLE
  • Matt Passmore has landed a series regular role on the drama pilot starring Mike Vogel. He previously starred for four seasons in A&E's The Glades and two seasons in USA's Satisfaction.
  • He will play Liam, a dark, rash and complicated member of the land's ruling family.
