After airing just one episode of its new season, Starz has renewed its original drama series American Gods for a third season. The renewal comes with the news that Charles "Chic" Eglee will replace Jesse Alexander as showrunner for the new episodes.
"Audiences continue to worship at the altar of American Gods and we are excited to be able to announce to all the true believers that there is more of this fantastical series to come," said Carmi Zlotnik, President of Programming, Starz. "With Chic at the helm, the invaluable insight and contributions of Neil Gaiman and the undeniable talent of this dedicated cast and crew, we know that the show will continue to deliver on the vision and promise laid out in the novel."
The drama stars Ricky Whittle, Emily Browning, Crispin Glover, Bruce Langley, Yetide Badaki, Orlando Jones, Mousa Kraish, Omid Abtahi, Demore Barnes, Pablo Schreiber and Ian McShane.
Eglee marks the third showrunner for the drama. Securing someone for the position was key for the show's renewal for a third season alongside viewers returning for the new episodes after a two year break between the first and second seasons. Bryan Fuller and Michael Green developed the drama based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. They were the showrunners for the first season but departed due to creative differences with Gaiman and production company Fremantle. They were replaced by Jesse Alexander for the second season, who ran into his own creative and management problems as well.
