Heading into the pre-Upfronts weekend, ABC had only ordered two new series for the upcoming 2019-20 season. And now, the broadcast network has doubled that number with series orders for drama For Life and comedy United We Fall.
For Life - A prisoner becomes a lawyer and litigates cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn't commit. His quest for freedom is driven by his desperate desire to get back to the family he loves and reclaim the life that was stolen from him. Through the window of his ferocious struggle and his complicated relationship with a progressive female prison warden, the flaws and challenges in our penal and legal systems are examined. Based on the life of Isaac Wright Jr.
The drama stars Nicholas Pinnock, Indira Varma, Joy Bryant, Glenn Fleshler, Tyla Harris, Dorian Missick, Mary Stuart Masterson and Boris McGiver.
Hank Steinberg wrote the pilot, which was directed by George Tillman Jr. They executive produce with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Doug Robinson, Isaac Wright Jr. and Alison Greenspan. ABC Studios, Sony Pictures Television, G-Unit Film & Television and Doug Robinson Productions produce.
United We Fall - Jo and Bill are parents of two young kids trying to make it day-to-day as a functioning family. Bill's very judgmental live-in mother and Jo's large Latinx Catholic family will never hesitate to let the couple know they're seemingly screwing up, but Bill and Jo will always have each other's backs, united against everyone - other parents, teachers, doctors, specialists, coaches, co-workers and especially their kids.
The comedy stars Will Sasso, Christina Vidal, Jason Michael Snow, Emma Grace Helton, Allyson Juliette and Jane Curtin.
Julius Sharpe wrote the pilot, which was directed by Mark Cendrowski. They executive produce with Julia Gunn and Seth Gordon. ABC Studios, Sony Pictures Television and Exhibit A Film produce.
