ABC has today renewed its original comedy series Black-ish for a sixth season. The broadcast network has also given a series order to a new spinoff Mixed-ish centered on the childhood of Rainbow Johnson.
Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Jenifer Lewis, Peter Mackenzie and Deon Cole.
Kenya Barris created the comedy. He executive produces with Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Brian Dobbins, Jonathan Groff and Helen Sugland. ABC Studios, Khalabo Ink Society, Cinema Gypsy Productions and Artists First produce.
Mixed-ish sees Bow recount her experience growing up in a mixed-race family in the 1980s, and the constant dilemmas they had to face over whether to assimilate or stay true to themselves.
The spinoff was initially set to be introduced as a backdoor pilot airing next week. However, that episode is now being held for next season, with the male lead of Bow's father - played by Anders Holm - being recast.
