'9-1-1' Spinoff 'Lone Star' Starring Rob Lowe Gets Straight-to-Series Order at FOX

Ryan Murphy's network procedural 9-1-1 is officially becoming a franchise. Today, FOX has given a straight-to-series order for a spinoff entitled 9-1-1: Lone Star starring Rob Lowe (Parks & Recreation, Code Black).

Along with his son, a sophisticated New York cop (Lowe) relocates to Austin, Texas and must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in his own life.

It currently remains unclear if any characters from the original show will transition to the spinoff or if new characters in the upcoming drama will first be introduced on the mothership.

9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear will serve in the same capacity on the spinoff. He will also executive produce with his co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. 20th Century Fox Television will produce.

"The beauty of having a hit drama like 911 from the genius minds of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear is it allows you to explore thrilling stories as told through an array of distinctive characters," said Michael Thorn, President, Fox Entertainment. "In 911: Lone Star, they've given us a special opportunity to expand the franchise into new territory - literally and figuratively - and we're thrilled to have the incomparable Rob Lowe headline this new iteration when it joins our schedule next season."
