Syfy has today given a series order to the original drama series Vagrant Queen starring Adriyan Rae (Light as Feather). Production on the 10-episode season will begin in July in Cape Town, South Africa for a 2020 premiere.
Based on the Vault comic series created by Magdalene Visaggio and Jason Smith, the drama follows Elida (Rae) from child queen to orphaned outcast, as she scavenges the treacherous corners of the galaxy, always one step ahead of the Republic government out to extinguish her bloodline. When her old friend Isaac shows up claiming her mother Xevelyn is still alive, they head off with their new ally, Amae, to stage a rescue that will take her back into the perilous heart of her former kingdom and up against a deadly foe from her childhood, Commander Lazaro.
The drama also stars Tim Rozon and Paul du Toit.
Jem Garrard developed the drama. She will serve as showrunner and will also direct. She executive produces with Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, F.J. DeSanto and Damian Wassel. Blue Ice Pictures and Vault Comics will produce.
