Tyler Perry has set his first project at BET as part of his multiple-year content partnership with Viacom. The original drama series The Oval has received a series order today. Production will begin this summer in Atlanta.
The drama revolves around the picture-perfect first couple who, behind closed doors, are anything but. The series explores lies, cheating and corruption.
The cast features Ed Quinn (Eureka, One Day at a Time) as Hunter Franklin, the newly elected president of the United States; Kron Moore (Stargirl) as Victoria Franklin, the first lady; Paige Hurd (Everybody Hates Chris) as Gayle, the couple's wild child daughter; and newcomer Daniel Croix Henderson as Jason, the couple's troubled teen son.
Perry will write, direct and executive produce the series. Michelle Sneed will also executive produce. Tyler Perry Studios will produce.
"I've been hard at work on The Oval and can't wait to share this story with audiences," said Perry. "I've set out to create a show that tells the story of a family placed in the White House by people of power while also highlighting the personal side and everyday lives of the staff who run the inner-workings of the nation's most iconic residence."
