OWN has today announced the premiere date for the upcoming original drama series David Makes Man starring Akili McDowell and Phylicia Rashad.
The drama's first season will premiere on Wednesday, August 14 at 10/9c. - following a new episode of Queen Sugar. The series premiere will also be presented with limited commercial interruption.
A 14-year-old prodigy from the projects (McDowell) is haunted by the death of his closest friend and relied on by his hardworking mother to find a way out of poverty. He must choose between the streets that raised him or the higher education that may offer him a way out.
The drama also stars Alana Arenas, Isaiah Johnson, Travis Coles, Nathaniel Logan McIntyre, Cayden K. Williams, Ade Chike Torbert and Jordan Bolger.
Recurring guest stars in the first season include Ruben Santiago Hudson, Elvis Nolasco, Gillian Williams, Juanita Jennings, Liza Colon-Zayas, Lindsey Blackwell, Lela Rochon, Trace Lysette and Nick Creegan.
Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight) created the drama, with Dee Harris-Lawrence serving as showrunner. They executive produce with Oprah Winfrey, Michael B. Jordan, Mike Kelley and Melissa Loy. Warner Horizon Scripted Television, Outlier Society Productions and Page Fright Productions produce.
