Showtime has today picked up the U.S. linear rights to the original comedy series Back to Life created by and starring Daisy Haggard (Episodes). The series aired earlier this year on the BBC, and will debut on Showtime this fall.
After 18 years behind bars, Miri Matteson (Haggard) returns home and stumbles back into adult life in the coastal town she once knew, while the mystery of her past looms large.
The comedy also stars Geraldine James, Richard Durden, Jo Martin, Jamie Michie, Christine Bottomley, Adeel Akhtar and Liam Williams.
Haggard executive produces with Laura Solon, Harry Williams, Jack Williams, Sarah Hammond and director Chris Sweeney. Debs Pisani serves as a producer. Two Brothers Pictures and All3Media International produce.
"Back to Life is a gem of a series that we are thrilled to bring across the pond," said Gary Levine, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks. "Daisy Haggard, whom Showtime audiences will remember from our series Episodes as Myra, the network comedy exec with absolutely no sense of humor, is wildly impressive, both as writer and star of this intriguing, touching and funny, character comedy."
The six-episode first season will premiere on Sunday, October 6 at 8:30/7:30c. on Showtime.
