Kenya Barris has today announced his second original series at Netflix, a sketch comedy series starring the New York-based improv troupe Astronomy Club - which will also be the title of the new show. The first season will produce six episodes.
The series will feature sketches that use comedy to discuss complex and nuanced real-world topics, ranging from pop culture to social issues to the black experience in America.
The cast includes Shawtane Bowen, Jonathan Braylock, Ray Cordova, James Ill, Caroline Martin, Jerah Milligan, Monique Moses and Keisha Zollar.
Barris will executive produce with Daniel Powell. Khalabo Ink Society and Irony Point Productions will produce.
Barris remains an executive producer on ABC's Black-ish and Freeform's Grown-ish even though he has moved his overall deal to Netflix. Astronomy Club joins his family comedy Black Excellence which he will also star in opposite Rashida Jones.
