- Brooke Smith, Anika Noni Rose, P.J. Byrne, Malcolm Mays, Jeremiah Birkett and Sophie Guest have landed recurring roles on the upcoming anthology series starring Deborah Ayorinde and Ashley Thomas. Smith has recurred on Showtime's Ray Donovan and A&E's Bates Motel. Rose starred for two seasons in BET's The Quad. Byrne has recurred on The CW's Black Lightning and HBO's Big Little Lies. Mays starred for two seasons in FX's Snowfall. Birkett has recurred on HBO's Euphoria and FOX/Netflix's Lucifer. Guest has appeared in the Lifetime movies The Good Nanny and Fatal Defense.
- Smith will play Helen Koistra, the realtor who moves the Emory family into their new home to the chagrin of their white neighbors.
- Rose will play Ella Mae, a petite, loving, god-fearing, if a bit fastidious housewife. Like the Emorys, she and her family are a pioneering black family in lily-white Compton.
- Byrne will play Stu Berks, Henry's patronizing new boss at the aeronautics plant. A 1950s version of the white dude who says things like "I can't be racist, I have black friends."
- Mays will play Calvin, the first friendly face Henry meets at his new job. Good humored and affable, he helps Henry navigate the racial tension of being the first black engineer of the newly integrated office.
- No details were immediately released about the characters Birkett and Guest will be playing.
