HBO has today given a series order to the original limited series The White House Plumbers starring Woody Harrelson (True Detective) and Justin Theroux (The Leftovers). The series will feature five episodes.
Based partly on public records from the era and partly on the book Integrity by Egil "Bud" Krogh and Matthew Krogh, E. Howard Hunt (Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Theroux) are President Richard Nixon's political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds who accidentally topple the presidnecy they were zealously trying to protect.
Veep's Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck are writing the series, with David Mandel set to direct. They will executive produce with Harrelson, Theroux, Ruben Fleischer, David Bernad, Frank Rich, Paul Lee and Nne Ebong. Wiip and The District produce in association with HBO.
"We're excited to bring together such a talented team to take on this fascinating look at the internal machinations that brought down the Nixon White House," said Casey Bloys, President of Programming, HBO. "We're especially happy to welcome both Woody and Justin back to HBO and are looking forward to getting started."
