Development News - John Corbett to Play Male Lead on 'Rebel'; Swoosie Kurtz Boards 'Call Me Kat'; Plus 3 More Updates!

Development News - February 12, 2020

ABC's Rebel; The CW's Untitled The 100 Prequel; FOX's Call Me Kat & Untitled Sarah Watson; and Showtime's The President Is Missing.

ABC's REBEL
  • John Corbett will play the male lead opposite Katey Sagal on the drama pilot written by Krista Vernoff. He previously starred for six seasons in CBS' Northern Exposure, three seasons in Showtime's United States of Tara and two seasons in FX's Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. He also stars in the My Big Fat Greek Wedding and To All the Boys film franchises.
  • He will play Grady Bello, a charming jack of all trades who never grew out of his dirty-sexy bad boy looks; even has the vintage mustang to prove it. He shares one adopted teenage daughter, Ziggie, with his wife of almost 10 years, Rebel (Sagal). Although he's her third husband, Grady has been with her the longest of any man. He thinks of himself as a good guy. Other people, for the most part, think of him as a pathological liar. But Rebel loves him - and he makes the most of that.
FOX's CALL ME KAT
  • Swoosie Kurtz has been cast on the comedy pilot (which has a series commitment) starring Mayim Bialik. She is a two-time Tony Award winner for the plays Fifth of July and The House of Blue Leaves. She has also starred for six seasons in NBC's Sisters and six seasons in CBS' Mike & Molly.
  • She will play Sheila, Kat's (Bialik) mother. She grew up in Louisville and subscribes to very traditional gender roles. She views her daughter's unmarried status as her own personal failure. A charming narcissist, Sheila has used her sex appeal to date an endless array of men since Kat's father died.
SHOWTIME's THE PRESIDENT IS MISSING
  • Paul Adelstein, Medina Senghore and Gina Gallego will co-star on the drama pilot starring David Oyelowo. Adelstein starred for three seasons in FOX's Prison Break, six seasons in ABC's Private Practice and two seasons in Bravo's Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce. Senghore starred for two seasons in Syfy's Happy!. Gallego has recurred on The CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and USA's Shooter.
  • Adelstein will play Terry Pratt, the Chief of Staff to President James Martin (Oyelowo). He is smart, loyal and in a permanent state of crisis.
  • Senghore will play Rachelle Martin, James' wife. She is educated, committed and passionate, but she has grown to hate everything about life in the Washington pressure cooker.
  • Gallego will play Mrs. Aceves, James' executive assistant, a position of influence. She is sweet, but also an extremely patient adversary.
THE CW's UNTITLED THE 100 PREQUEL
  • Iola Evans, Adain Bradley and Leo Howard will appear in the backdoor pilot prequel to The 100. Evans' guest credits include Amazon's Carnival Row and ITV's Vera. Bradley starred for a year in CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful. Howard starred in the first season of CBS All Access' Why Women Kill and is currently recurring on The CW's Legacies.
  • Evans will play Callie. Whip-smart and passionate with a rebellious streak to boot, she has spent years ignoring expectations in order to fight for the causes in which she believes. When the apocalypse devastates the world she had been working so hard to save, she must find a new purpose, and future, for all that remains of humanity.
  • Bradley will play Reese. Hard-working and headstrong, he has spent a lifetime in fierce competition with his beloved sister, Callie. But when the opportunity to finally prove his worth comes with an incredible cost, he must figure out what lines he is willing to cross to finally come out on top.
  • Howard will play August, a rebellious and passionate musician. He is a member of a radical environmental group dedicated to saving the planet by any means necessary. After the apocalypse, he must figure out how to go on when everything he had been fighting for is gone.
