After sparking a bidding war between multiple outlets, AppleTV+ has today given a series order to the original limited series The Shrink Next Door starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd - who previously starred together in the Anchorman film franchise.
Based on the Wondery podcast, the comedic series follows the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac "Ike" Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin "Marty" Markowitz (Ferrell). During the course of their relationship, the all-too-charming Ike slowly takes over Marty's life, even moving into Marty's home and assuming control of his family business. The explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative one filled with manipulation, power grabs and dysfunctional at its finest.
Georgia Pritchett developed the series and will serve as showrunner. She will executive produce with Ferrell, Rudd, Jessica Elbaum, Brittney Segal, Jordana Mollick, Marshall Lewy, Jared Sandberg, Katie Boyce, Francesca Levy and director Michael Showalter. Joe Nocera will co-executive produce. MRC Television, Civic Center Media and Gloria Sanchez Productions will produce.
