AMC has picked up the U.S. rights to the original British drama series Gangs of London - which has already been renewed for a second season by Sky. Cinemax was the original U.S. partner but pulled out following a shift in programming strategy last year.
The drama tells the story of a city being torn apart by the turbulent power struggles of the international gangs that control it and the sudden power vacuum that's created when the head of London's most powerful crime family is assassinated.
The cast includes Joe Cole, Sope Dirisu, Lucian Msamati, Michelle Fairley, Mark Lewis Jones, Narges Rashidi, Parth Thakerar, Asif Raza Mir, Valene Kane, Brian Vernel, Jing Lusi, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Orli Shuka, Richard Harrington, Jude Akuwudike and Emmett J. Scanlan.
Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery created the drama. They executive produce with Gabriel Silver, Thomas Benski, Lucas Ochoa and Jane Featherstone. Sky Studios, Pulse Films and Sister Pictures produce.
"Gangs of London is a cinematic thrill ride that set screens ablaze with a stellar cast, elevated drama and epic storylines, and we couldn't be more excited to raise the pulse of our audiences with this explosive crime series," said Dan McDermott, President of Original Programming for AMC and Co-President of AMC Studios. "We're grateful for the opportunity to partner with Sky Studios, Pulse Films and Sister to continue to push the boundaries on a bold new seasons of the series."
