Following a success partnership with the series adaptation of Normal People, Hulu and BBC Three are teaming on the original half-hour drama series Conversations With Friends based on the novel by Sally Rooney. 12 episodes will be produced for the series.
The series revolves around two Dublin college students who forge an unexpected, strange and sexually charged relationship with an older married couple that results in a complicated pair of love triangles that upend their lives.
Alice Birch will serve as lead writer, while Lenny Abrahamson will direct. They will also executive produce with Rooney, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Emma Norton, Rose Garnett and Tommy Sulfin. Catherine Magee will be a producer. Element Pictures will produce in association with Hulu and BBC Three.
"Sally Rooney perfectly and beautifully captures the complicated dynamics of relationships in her stories," said Beatrice Springborn, Vice President of Original Content, Hulu. "After bringing that to life in Normal People to an overwhelmingly positive response, we are honored to do the same with Conversations With Friends. We are excited to continue our creative partnership with Sally, Element Pictures, Lenny and the BBC, which has been a dream collaboration."
