Ahead of its second season launch in September Amazon has renewed its original drama series The Boys for a third season. Moreover, the streaming series has ordered an aftershow series to be paired alongside the upcoming season this fall.
The drama stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell and Aya Cash.
Eric Kripke developed the drama based on the comic of the same name. He executive produces with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin and Jason Netter. Amazon Studios, Sony Pictures Television, Point Grey Pictures, Original Film and Kripke Enterprises produce.
Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys will be hosted and executive produced by Aisha Tyler (The Talk, Whose Line Is It Anyway?). Each episode will feature members of the cast, creative team and other special guests.
Additional executive producers include Michael Davies, Julia Cassidy, Eden Sutley and Jennifer Ryan. Amazon Studios, Embassy Row and Sony Pictures Television will produce.
Season 2 of The Boys debuts with its first three episodes on Friday, September 4, with the remaining episodes airing weekly. Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys will launch on Friday, August 28 with a look back at the first season.
"Amazon, in a bold and historic push to expand their 'weirdo' demographic, has greenlit Season 3 of The Boys," said Kripke. "The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writers' room and we're sad to say, the world has given us way too much material. We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that's up to a microscopic virus. As if that wasn't enough, we're bringing you a Season 2 after show, Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Double entendre intended. Hosted by the incomparable Aisha Tyler and guest starring the cast and crew, it's a deep dive into how we make this insane thing."
"Eric Kripke and the incredible cast of The Boys continue to deliver a wild and action-packed series full of surprises and can't miss moments that have made the series a global hit," added Vernon Sanders, Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios. "We couldn't be more excited to see where Eric takes The Boys and The Supes in Season 3, and to have Aisha Tyler join The Boys family as the host of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys."
