Amazon has today given a series order to the original drama series Dead Ringers starring Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) in her first major television role. The series is a gender swap of the 1988 feature film directed by David Cronenberg.
The Mantle twins (both played by Weisz) are the most successful, brilliant and extraordinary people you've never met. Identical from head to toe, these two OB/GYN's are on a mission to change the way women birth, starting with Manhattan. Drugs, pioneering but very much illegal medical research, sex and falling in love, this drama takes us to darker and stranger territory than we could have possibly imagined.
Alice Birch (Normal People) developed the drama. She will executive produce with Weisz, Stacy O'Neil, Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Ali Krug, James G. Robinson, David Robinson and Barbara Wall. Annapurna Television and Morgan Creek Entertainment will produce.
