Peacock has today given a series order to the original comedy series MacGruber based on the Saturday Night Live character created and played by Will Forte, which previously spawned a 2010 feature film. The comedy will produce an 8-episode first season.
After rotting in prison for over a decade, America's ultimate hero and uber-patriot MacGruber (Forte) is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past - Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber must race against time to defeat the forces of evil - only to find that evil... may be lurking within.
Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe - who co-stared in the feature film - are currently in negotiations to return for the series.
Forte is writing the series alongside John Solomon and director Jorma Taccone. They will also executive produce with Lorne Michaels, Andrew Singer, John Goldwyn and Erin David. Universal Television and Broadway Video will produce.
