AppleTV+ has today given a series order to the original anthology series Roar starring Nicole Kidman (The Undoing), Cynthia Erivo (Genius: Aretha), Merritt Wever (Unbelievable) and Alison Brie (GLOW).
Based on Cecelia Ahern's book of short stories, the season will feature eight, half-hour episodes, each told from a female point of view.
GLOW creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch developed the series. They will executive produce with Ahern, Kidman, Per Saari, Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, Allie Goss and Theresa Park. Endeavor Content, Blossom Films, Made Up Stories, Greenlight Go and Per Capita Productions will produce.
Furthermore, Flahive and Mensch have signed an overall deal with the streaming service - after previously being signed to Netflix. Under the new pact, they will develop new series for AppleTV+ in addition to serving as showrunners for Roar. Their exits from Netflix come after the streamer renewed the original comedy series GLOW for a fourth season only to cancel it later on during the COVID-19 pandemic.
