From June 17-28, 2021, voting took place for The 73rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. As such, it's fun to look at which actors and shows have the best chances of actually being nominated this year. So, these are my predictions for who will be nominated for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
For Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, 52 actors were submitted for consideration. That will result in five nominees in this category when the nominations are announced on Tuesday, July 13.
Actors most likely to be nominated:
- Ethan Hawke for Showtime's The Good Lord Bird
- Hugh Grant for HBO's The Undoing
- Paul Bettany for Disney+'s WandaVision
- Jeff Daniels for Showtime's The Comey Rule
- Bryan Cranston for Showtime's Your Honor
Serious threats that could break through:
- Lin-Manuel Miranda and Leslie Odom Jr. for Disney+'s Hamilton
- Joel Edgerton for Amazon's The Underground Railroad
- Ewan McGregor for Netflix's Halston
- Chris Rock and Jason Schwartzman for FX's Fargo
- Jude Law for HBO's The Third Day
Some considerable long-shots:
- Olly Alexander for HBO Max's It's a Sin
- Hugh Laurie for PBS' Roadkill
- Andrew Scott for HBO's Oslo
- Ashley Thomas for Amazon's Them: Covenant
- Tom Bateman for Netflix's Behind Her Eyes
- Nnamdi Asomugha for Amazon's Sylvie's Love
Colorful oddities who still have an outside chance:
- Treat Williams for Netflix's Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square
- Oliver Jackson-Cohen for Netflix's The Haunting of Bly Manor
- Michael Chiklis for Paramount+'s Coyote
- Maliq Johnson for Netflix's Grand Army
- James Marsden and Alexander Skarsgård for CBS All Access' The Stand
- James Roday Rodriguez and Dulé Hill for Peacock's Psych 2: Lassie Come Home
