Peacock Cancels 'Punky Brewster' After One Season

Peacock has today announced the cancellation of its original comedy series Punky Brewster after one season. The 10-episode first season was released on February 25, 2021.

The comedy featured Soleil Moon Frye and Cherie Johnson reprising their roles from the 1984-88 sitcom that originally aired on NBC and in syndication.

In addition to Frye and Johnson, the revival also starred Quinn Copeland, Noah Cottrell, Oliver De Los Santos, Lauren Lindsey Donzis and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Steve and Jim Armogida developed the series. They executive produced with Frye, David Duclon, Jimmy Fox and director Jonathan Judge. Universal Content Productions, Main Event Media and Armogida Brothers Productions produced.

"Punky Brewster was a beloved series that tackled meaningful storylines with so much heart," said Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Programming, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. "It was a bright light for so many viewers and we are forever grateful to Universal Studio Group, the producers, the cast and crew and especially to Soleil Moon Frye for reigniting the Punky Power within everyone."
