AppleTV+ has today announced the premiere date for the upcoming original comedy series Acapulco inspired by the 2017 feature film How to Be a Latin Lover.
The 10-episode first season will launch on Friday, October 8.
The comedy tells the story of 20-something Máximo Gallardo, whose dream comes true when he gets the job of a lifetime as a cabana boy at the hottest resort in Acapulco. He soon realizes the job is far more complicated than he ever imagined and in order to succeed, he must learn to navigate a demanding clientele, a mercurial mentor, and a complicated home life, without losing his way to shortcuts or temptations. The series, which is told in both Spanish and English, takes place in 1984, with Eugenio Derbez narrating and playing the present-day version of Máximo (reprising the role from the film).
The comedy also stars Enrique Arrizon, Fernando Carsa, Damián Alcázar, Camila Perez, Chord Overstreet, Vanessa Bauche, Regina Reynoso, Raphael Alejandro, Jessica Collins, Rafael Cebrián, Regina Orozco and Carlos Corona.
Austin Winsberg, Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman created the comedy, with Winsberg and Chris Harris serving as co-showrunners. All four executive produce with Derbez, Jay Karas, Ben Odell, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum and director Richard Shepard. Jason Wang serves as a co-executive producer, with Sonia Gambaro as a co-producer. Lionsgate Television, The Tannenbaum Company, 3Pas Studios and Pantelion Films produce.
