Paramount+ has today locked down the streaming futures of two animated comedy franchises - South Park and Beavis and Butt-Head. The latter was originally set to produce a revival season on Comedy Central. The new season will instead launch on Paramount+ later this year.
"South Park and Beavis and Butt-Head are two of the most successful and widely known adult animation IP in the history of the genre, and I am thrilled that Paramount+ will be their exclusive new SVOD home," said Chris McCarthy, Chief Content Officer of Unscripted Entertainment and Adult Animation, Paramount+. "By expanding the universe of these franchises, we are unlocking significant value within ViacomCBS' treasure chest of IP, and this is just the beginning."
Beginning in 2025, Paramount+ will become the global streaming home for the full catalog of South Park episodes, movies, and made-for-streaming movies. The streaming rights for the animated series are currently held by HBO Max. The series has already been renewed through its 30th season on Comedy Central, keeping it on the air through at least 2027. The series has already produced two made-for-streaming movies for Paramount+, with an exclusive deal already made to produce more this year.
From MTV Entertainment Studios, the full library of over 200 remastered episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head will be available to stream exclusively on Paramount+. Their arrival comes ahead of the series' revival for its ninth season. The series will also produce a made-for-streaming movie titled Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, set for release later this year as well.
