Netflix has today given a series order to the original comedy series Unstable starring Rob Lowe and his real-life son John Owen Lowe. The series is inspired by their social media relationship, in which John Owen often humorously trolls his dad.
Set in a cutting-edge biotech research company, the comedy will follow an introverted, socially-challenged son who goes to work for his very successful, wildly eccentric father in order to save him from disaster.
Victor Fresco created the comedy. He will executive produce with both Lowes.
"We are very excited to be working with Victor, Rob and John Owen," said Tracey Pakosta, Head of Comedy, Netflix. "The three of them - and their wildly funny, smart sensibilities - are a perfect fit for our growing slate of scripted comedies."
Rob Lowe currently stars in FOX's 9-1-1: Lone Star, which is now airing its third season. John Owen Lowe also works on the first responder drama, serving as a story editor and having written four episodes to date. Father and son previously acted together in FOX's one-season comedy The Grinder. They also starred together in the A&E unscripted series The Lowe Files alongside Rob's other son and John Owen's brother, Matthew Lowe.
