AMC has today acquired the stateside rights to the international original drama series Monsieur Spade starring Clive Owen (Impeachment: American Crime Story, Lisey's Story). Production will begin in France this summer.
The drama is based on the protagonist from 1930 novel The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. Set in the South of France in 1963 at the end of the Algerian War, Detective Sam Spade (Owen) is living out his golden years in the small town of Bozouls but will soon find his tranquility interrupted.
Scott Frank (The Queen's Gambit) and Tom Fontana (City on a Hill) created the drama, with Frank also set to direct. They will executive produce with Owen, Barry Levinson, Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, Caroline Benjo, Simon Arnal, Carole Scotta, Carlo Martinelli and David Halpern. Black Bear Television, FilmNation Entertainment and Haut et Court Television will produce.
