AppleTV+ has today given a series order to a live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga series Speed Race from executive producer J.J. Abrams. An episode count and premiere date window were not announced as a writers room is still in the early stages of being assembled.
Details about the plot of the new drama remain cryptic beyond being a live-action take on the classic manga series that created 52 episodes from 1967-68, which also aired in the United States in syndication.
Hiram Martinez (Snowpiercer) and Ron Fitzgerald (Perry Mason) developed the drama. They will executive produce with Abrams and Ben Stephenson. Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot Productions will produce.
