Showtime has today announced the premiere date for its upcoming original drama series American Gigolo starring Jon Bernthal.
The 8-episode first season will launch on Sunday, September 11 at 9/8c.
After his wrongful conviction release from 15 years in prison, Julian Kaye (Bernthal) navigates his complicated relationships with his former lover Michelle, his troubled mother, and the people who betrayed him. While Julian struggles to reconcile the escort he was in the past and the man he is today, Detective Sunday seeks the truth about the murder that sent Julian to prison all those years ago, unearthing a much larger conspiracy along the way.
In addition to Bernthal, the drama stars Gretchen Mol, Rosie O'Donnell, Lizzie Brocheré, Gabriel LaBelle and Leland Orser.
Guest stars include Wayne Brady, Alex Fernandez, Sandrine Holt, Yolonda Ross and Melora Walters.
David Hollander developed the drama based on the 1980 feature film of the same name. However, he was removed from the series as writer, director and executive producer in April following an investigation into allegations of misconduct. Nikki Toscano was eventually brought on as showrunner to complete work on the first season - which had its episode order reduced from ten to eight.
Toscano executive produces with Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed and Russell Rothberg. Paramount Television Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television produce.
