Casting News - September 28, 2022

ABC's Grey's Anatomy; Disney+'s Genius: MLK/X; FXX's Dave; Paramount+'s Lioness; and Showtime's Yellowjackets.

ABC's GREY'S ANATOMY
  • Marla Gibbs will guest star in two episodes of the drama's upcoming nineteenth season. She previously starred for eight seasons in CBS' The Jeffersons, receiving five Emmy Award nominations for her performance. More recently, she has recurred on ABC's Station 19 and NBC's Days of Our Lives.
  • She will play Joyce Ward, the grandmother of new resident Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd).
SHOWTIME's YELLOWJACKETS
  • Kevin Alves has been promoted to series regular for the drama's upcoming second season. He previously recurred throughout the first season - appearing in all 10 episodes. He also recurred on Freeform's Shadowhunters and Netflix's Locke & Key.
  • He plays Travis, the son of Coach Martinez, a guarded and insecure teen who ended up starting a romance with Natalie (Sophie Thatcher). The character is played as an adult by Andres Soto.
DISNEY+'s GENIUS: MLK/X
  • Kelvin Harrison Jr., Aaron Pierre, Weruche Opia and Jayme Lawson will star in the upcoming fourth installment of the anthology series. Harrison Jr. previously starred in the films The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Elvis. Pierre starred for two seasons in Syfy's Krypton and recurred on Amazon's The Underground Railroad. Opia starred in the HBO limited series I May Destroy You. Lawson can currently be seen in the film The Woman King.
  • The new season will explore the formative years, pioneering accomplishments, dueling philosophies and key personal relationships of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Harrison Jr.) and Malcolm X (Pierre). While King advanced racial equality through nonviolent protest, Malcolm X argued forcefully for Black empowerment, identity and self-determination. With their formidable wives, Coretta Scott King (Opia) and Betty Shabazz (Lawson), by their sides, King and Malcolm X became synonymous with the civil rights era and the fight for racial and economic justice. While they met only once and often challenged each other's views, neither would have been as successful without the other.
PARAMOUNT+'s LIONESS
  • Stephanie Nur has joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Zoe SaldaƱa and Laysla De Oliveira. She previously recurred on Paramount+'s 1883.
  • She will play Aaliyah, the daughter of a billionaire businessman with ties to terrorism, who is a high value target of the CIA.
FXX's DAVE
  • Chloe Bennet has landed a recurring role on the comedy's upcoming third season. She previously starred for seven seasons in ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • She will play Robyn, a photographer from Wisconsin whom Dave (Dave Burd) meets while on tour.
