Hulu has today given a series order to the original drama series Interior Chinatown based on the novel by Charles Yu. The first season will produce 10 episodes, with Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley, Crazy Rich Asians) playing the lead role.
Relegated to the background of a procedural cop show called Black & White, Willis Wu (Yang) goes through the motions of his on-screen job, waiting tables and dreaming about a whole world beyond Chinatown. When he inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, Willis begins to unravel a criminal web in Chinatown, and in the process discovers what it feels like to be in the spotlight.
Yu developed the series, with Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, What We Do In the Shadows) set to direct the premiere. They will executive produce with Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, Elsie Choi, Jeff Skoll, Miura Kite and Garrett Basch. 20th Television will produce.
