Amazon has today given a series order to the original drama series Butterfly starring Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-0). The first season will produce six episodes. Production will commence once the AMPTP makes a new agreement with the WGA, DGA and SAG-AFTRA.
A character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage, the series will center on David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him. He finds himself pursued by Rebecca, a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him.
Ken Woodruff and Steph Cha developed the drama based on the graphic novel series by Arash Amel. All three will executive produce with Kim, John Cheng, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie. Adam Yoelin will serve as a co-executive producer. Amazon Studios, BOOM! Studios, 3AD and The Amel Company will produce.
In addition to acting and producing, Kim currently serves as a Commissioner to President Joe Biden's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
