Netflix has today announced the premiere date for its upcoming original comedy series Survival of the Thickest created by and starring Michelle Buteau.
All 8 episodes of the first season will be available on Thursday, July 13.
The comedy centers on Mavis Beaumont (Buteau), who is Black, plus-size and newly single (not by her choice!). Mavis unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life as a struggling stylist. She's determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss.
In addition to Buteau, the comedy stars Tone Bell, Christine Horn and Tasha Smith.
Guest stars include Annisa Felix, Allan K. Washington, Ambre Anderson, Anna George, Anthony Michael Lopez, Becca Blackwell, Christine Jones, Garcelle Beauvais, Hugh Moore, J. Riley Jr., Mark McKinnon and Marouane Zotti.
Buteau created the comedy based on her book of essays. She executive produces with showrunner Danielle Sanchez-Witzel, Ravi Nandan, Alli Reich and Anne Hong. A24 produces.
