HBO has today decided to cancel its original drama series Perry Mason after two seasons. The drama finished its 16-episode run on April 24, 2023.
HBO released the following statement on the cancellation: "We are tremendously grateful for the remarkable work of Matthew Rhys and the unrivaled cast and crew of Perry Mason for their reimagining of such a treasured and storied franchise. While we won't be moving forward with another season of the series, we are excited to continue working with the brilliant creatives at Team Downey on future projects."
The drama starred Matthew Rhys, Juliet Rylance, Chris Chalk, Shea Whigham, Justin Kirk, Diarra Kilpatrick, Eric Lange and Katherine Waterston.
Jack Amiel and Michael Begler served as showrunners on the drama's second season. They executive produced with Rhys, Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, Amanda Burrell and Joe Horaceck. Team Downey produced in association with HBO. The drama was based on the characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner.
