Hulu has today announced the premiere date for its upcoming original drama series Black Cake starring Mia Isaac and Adrienne Warren.
The 8-episode first season will debut on Wednesday, November 1 with its first three episodes. New episodes will then be released weekly every Wednesday until the season finale on December 6.
Based on the novel by Charmaine Wilkerson, the series is a family drama wrapped in a murder mystery with a diverse cast of characters and a global setting taking place in Jamaica, Italy, Scotland, England and Southern California. In the late 1960s, a runaway bride named Covey (Isaac) disappears into the surf off the coast of Jamaica and is feared drowned or a fugitive on the run for her husband's murder. In present day California, a widow named Eleanor Bennett, loses her battle with cancer, leaving her two estranged children, Byron and Benny (Warren), a flash drive that holds previously untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America. These stories, narrated by Eleanor, shock her children and challenge everything they thought they knew about their family's origin.
In addition to Isaac and Warren, the drama stars Chipo Chung, Ashley Thomas, Lashay Anderson, Faith Alabi and Glynn Turman.
Recurring guest stars include Ahmed Eljah, Simon Wan and Sonita Henry.
Marissa Jo Cerar developed the drama. She executive produces with Wilkerson, Oprah Winfrey, Aaron Kaplan, Carla Gardini, Brian Morewitz and Michael Lohmann. Two Drifters, Harpo Films and Kapital Entertainment produce.
