ABC Cancels 'The Wonder Years' After Two Seasons

ABC has today decided to cancel its original comedy series The Wonder Years after two seasons. The comedy wrapped its 32-episode run on August 16, 2023.

The comedy starred Elisha "EJ" Williams, Dulé Hill, Saycon Sengbloh, Laura Kariuki, Julian Lerner, Amari O'Neil and Milan Ray, with Don Cheadle narrating.

Saladin K. Patterson created the comedy inspired by the 1988-1993 comedy of the same name. He executive produced with Lee Daniels, Marc Velez and Bob Daily. 20th Television and Lee Daniels Entertainment.

The series joined the broadcast network's famed comedy brand during the 2021-22 broadcast season. Debuting in September 2021, it quickly earned a back nine pickup and produced 22 episodes in its first season. After it was renewed for a second season, the network announced a midseason slot for the comedy during the 2022-23 season. Instead, the comedy was eventually delayed and the 10-episode second and now final season was released this summer - alongside no other comedy originals on the network.

The comedy was one of three scripted series that remain in limbo on ABC. The broadcast network still hasn't made renewal or cancellation decisions on The Rookie: Feds and Home Economics.
