HBO Cancels 'Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty' After Two Seasons

HBO's Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty will not be returning for a third season. After the second season finale aired today, series creator Max Borenstein shared the cancellation on social media.






The drama starred John C. Reilly, Quincy Isaiah, Jason Clarke, Adrien Brody, Gaby Hoffman, Jason Segel, Hadley Robinson, DeVaughn Nixon, Solomon Hughes, Tamera Tomakili, Spencer Garrett, Molly Gordon, Brett Cullen, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Delante Desouza, Jimel Atkins, Austin Aaron, Joey Brooks, Rob Morgan, Gillian Jacobs, Thomas Mann, McCabe Slye and Michael Chiklis.

Borenstein and Jim Hecht co-developed the drama based on the novel Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s by Jeff Pearlman. They executive produced with Adam McKay, Kevin Messick, Scott Stephens, Jason Shuman, Rodney Barnes and director Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Hyperobject Industries, Jim Hecht Productions, Jason Shuman Productions and Steeplechase Amusements produced in association with HBO.

The drama produced 10 episodes for its first season, which aired in Spring 2022. The 7-episode second season debuted last month - with decreased viewership from the first run of episodes.
