Starz has today picked up the original limited series Mary & George starring Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine. The series was originally a co-production between AMC and Sky. However, Starz will now air the 7-part series in the U.S. and Canada.
In 17th century England, Mary Villiers (Moore), Countess of Buckingham, molded her beautiful son, George (Galitzine), to seduce King James I and become his all-powerful lover. Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become one of the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King's most trusted advisors.
In addition to Moore and Galitzine, the series stars Tony Curran, Nicola Walker, Niamh Algar, Trine Dyrholm, Sean Gilder, Adrian Rawlins, Mark O'Halloran, Laurie Davidson, Samuel Blenkin, Jacob McCarthy, Tom Victor, Alice Grant, Amelia Gething, Mirren Mack, Rina Mahoney and Simon Russell Beale.
D.C. Moore developed the series inspired by the nonfiction novel The King's Assassin by Benjamin Woolley. He will executive produce with Julianne Moore, Liza Marshall, Sam Hoyle and director Oliver Hermanus. Sky Studios and Hera Pictures produce.
