Jemaine Clement developed the comedy based on his feature film of the same name. He executive produces with Taika Waititi, Paul Simms, Stefani Robinson, Sam Johnson, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush. FX Productions and 343 Incorporated produce.
In June 2022, FX picked up two additional seasons of the comedy ahead of its fourth season premiere. The fifth season aired in Summer 2023. Moreover, the comedy is currently nominated for four Emmy Awards - with the winners being announced at the delayed ceremony for 2023 next month.
