HBO has today announced the premiere date for its upcoming original limited series The Sympathizer starring Hoa Xuande and Robert Downey Jr.
The 7-episode limited series will launch on Sunday, April 14 at 9/8c.
Based on the novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen, the series is an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy (Xuande) during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren't over.
In addition to Xuande and Downey Jr., the series stars Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Phanxine, Vy Le, Ky Duyen, Kieu Chinh, Duy Ngueyn, Alan Trong and Sandra Oh.
Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar developed the drama, with Chan-wook also directing. They executive produce with Downey Jr., Susan Downey, Amanda Burrell, Niv Fichman, Kim Ly, Ron Schmidt, Viet Thanh Nguyen and Jisun Back. A24, Team Downey, Rhombus Media, Moho Film and Cinetic Media produce.
