Casting News - March 4, 2024

Amazon's The Bondsman; AppleTV+'s The Last Frontier; CBS' NCIS: Origins; The CW's The Librarians: The Next Chapter; FOX's Doc; Hulu's Only Murders in the Building; and Netflix's The Abandons

NETFLIX's THE ABANDONS
  • Clayton Cardenas has been cast in a recurring role on the upcoming drama starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson. He previously starred for five seasons in FX's Mayans M.C. The casting reunites him with Kurt Sutter, who created the Netflix and FX dramas.
  • No details were immediately announced about the character he will be playing.
THE CW's THE LIBRARIANS: THE NEXT CHAPTER
  • Christian Kane will reprise his role from TNT's The Librarians in the upcoming spinoff starring Jessica Green. He previously starred for all four seasons of the original series. He currently stars in Amazon's Leverage: Redemption, now filming its third season, and Freevee's Almost Paradise, which released its second season last July.
  • Kane plays Jacob Stone. Born and raised in Oklahoma, he has spent his entire life trying to fit in with the cowboys he works alongside over at the oil pipeline. But the truth is, Stone is a genius when it comes to art, architecture and history. He is the perfect mix of brains and brawn and is equally skilled at analyzing a Bernini as he is at cracking heads in a bar brawl. Having been a Librarian for over a decade, Stone is tasked by The Library to mentor and help Charlie (Green) find her confidence so she can fulfill her dream of becoming a permanent Guardian.
HULU's ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING
  • Kumail Nanjiani has booked a recurring role on the comedy's upcoming fourth season. He previously starred for six seasons in HBO's Silicon Valley. He has also received two Emmy Award nominations - for his guest role on Paramount+'s The Twilight Zone and for his lead role in the Hulu limited series Welcome to Chippendales.
  • No details were immediately announced about the character he will be playing.
CBS' NCIS: ORIGINS
  • Austin Stowell will play the lead role in the upcoming NCIS prequel. He previously starred in the Hulu limited series Catch-22 and in the Peacock limited series A Friend of the Family.
  • He will play a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played for nineteen seasons in the original series by Mark Harmon. Set in 1991, the new series follows Gibbs as he starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NIS Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.
FOX's DOC
  • Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker, Anya Banerjee, Scott Wolf and Patrick Walker have joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Molly Parker. Metwally previously starred for three seasons in Showtime's The Affair and in the second season of ABC's Big Sky. Vann starred for two seasons in WGN America's Underground and two seasons in ABC's How to Get Away With Murder. Ecker recurred on Netflix's Narcos, USA's Queen of the South and Netflix's Firefly Lane. Banerjee starred in the tenth season of NBC's The Blacklist. Wolf starred for six seasons in FOX's Party of Five, two seasons in NBC's The Night Shift and four seasons in The CW's Nancy Drew. Walker starred in the AppleTV+ limited series Lessons in Chemistry.
  • Metwally will play Dr. Michael Hamda, the new Westside Hospital CMO, who possesses a natural authority and obvious intelligence. He works hard to bring humanity back to the business of medicine. He trained as an MD, but realized early on that he could do more good behind the scenes, so he got an MBA and followed the administrative path. While driven in his career, Michael has always put his family first. And even though his marriage fell apart, he's still an excellent dad and does his best to manage the complicated relationship he has with his ex, Dr. Amy Larsen (Parker), despite the fact that they now work together.
  • Vann will play Dr. Gina Walker, a neuropsychiatrist and Amy's best friend for two decades. She is witty, warm and dedicated. Post-accident, she's also Amy's doctor. It's not easy for her to balance the two competing and colliding roles she plays in Amy's life - being both her doctor and her friend - but she walks that fine line with grace, good humor and a lot of love. Where she sometimes has more trouble is with navigating her own personal life.
  • Ecker will play Dr. Jake Heller, the dedicated and charming Chief Resident, who loves Amy, professionally and personally. And though, painfully, she now has no recollection of him, he continues to defend and champion Amy's work in the hospital. While Jake is warm and fun to be around, he keeps a lot close to the vest - including his troubled upbringing and his strained relationship with his ex-wife Rachel. The two share custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Mia, who is the most important thing in the world to Jake.
  • Banerjee will play Dr. Sonya Maitra, a third year resident. She's self-deprecating and funny - or snarky, depending on who she's talking to. She hates the way Amy has treated her and others at the hospital. But it's complicated, because Jake, who adores Amy, is Sonya's closest friend. Sonya comes from a close-knit family: her parents have been married 30 years, and she is the "last single standing" amongst her siblings. She acutely feels the pressure to hurry up and tie the knot, since her biological clock is ticking. But sadly, Mr. Right has been elusive. Tasked with taking care of Amy after her accident, she starts to see another side to the boss she detests.
  • Wolf will play Dr. Richard Miller, an attending physician, who is uptight, ambitious and afraid to admit mistakes. However, he's extremely kind to his subordinates and completely devoted to his family. He adores his wife, Victoria (a lawyer), and their kids. Unfortunately, recent family drama has caused upheaval at home and is distracting him at work. He and Amy were once friends, until she "stole" the coveted position of Chief from him. After her accident, he's back in the top job. Where he's sure he belongs. For now...
  • Walker will play Dr. Theodore "TJ" Coleman, a first year resident who is wicked smart, kind and strong. Charismatic with an infectious smile, he is a veteran and the son of two cops. He and Amy go back a long way - in fact, she was his inspiration to become a physician. TJ keeps this a secret, not wanting it to appear that he received any preferential treatment from the Chief of Internal Medicine. When Amy returns to work after her accident, TJ, now basically her equal, will have her back and prove fiercely dedicated to helping his role model navigate the challenges of her new reality.
AMAZON's THE BONDSMAN
  • Beth Grant, Damon Herriman, Maxwell Jenkins and Jolene Purdy will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Kevin Bacon and Jennifer Nettles. Grant starred for six seasons in FOX/Hulu's The Mindy Project and recurred on AMC's Mayfair Witches. Herriman starred for three seasons in FX's Mr Inbetween and recurred on FX's Justified. Jenkins starred for three seasons in Netflix's Lost in Space. Purdy recurred on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black and Netflix's Firefly Lane.
  • Grant will play Kitty, the mother of Hub Halloran (Bacon).
  • Herriman will play Lucky, the owner of a successful country music club who is in a relationship with Maryanne (Nettles), Hub's ex-wife.
  • Jenkins will play Cade, the son of Hub and Maryanne.
  • Purdy will play Midge, who is weary with the understated gravitas of someone who's learned the hard way how to hold her ground in a male-dominated world. She may look unassuming but she's actually a secret emissary.
APPLE TV+'s THE LAST FRONTIER
  • Alfre Woodard is set as a series regular on the upcoming drama starring Jason Clarke. She previously starred for two seasons in Netflix's Luke Cage and two seasons in AppleTV+'s See. Across her career, she has received 18 Emmy Award nominations - winning for her guest roles on NBC's Hill Street Blues, NBC's L.A. Law and ABC's The Practice as well as her lead performance in the HBO film Miss Evers' Boys.
  • She will play Bradford, a top leader in the CIA.
