CBS has today decided to cancel its original drama series NCIS: Hawai'i after three seasons. The drama's final episode airing on Monday, May 6 will now serve as its series finale.
The drama stars Vanessa Lachey, Alex Tarrant, Noah Mills, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Jason Antoon and Tori Anderson, with special guest star LL Cool J.
Christopher Silber, Jan Nash and Matt Bosack developed the drama - the fourth series in the NCIS franchise. They executive produced with Larry Teng. CBS Studios, Harp to the Party Productions and Close to the Land Productions produced.
Notably, NCIS: Hawai'i was the first series in the franchise with a female lead. Unfortunately, it now becomes the first series in the franchise to conclude without being able to write a proper conclusion. When NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans ended after fourteen and seven seasons respectively, they each had proper lead time to produce satisfying series finales.
The cancellation also comes as CBS is plotting a significant NCIS expansion for the 2024-25 broadcast season. The mothership NCIS has been renewed for its landmark 22nd season. Moreover, NCIS: Sydney is coming back for a second season. A new spinoff NCIS: Origins starring Austin Stowell has been ordered detailing the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs' career. The franchise is also expanding to a new platform. An untitled spinoff set in Europe has been ordered at Paramount+ with Micheal Weatherly and Cote de Pablo reprising their roles from the original series.
NCIS: Hawai'i was the last remaining show awaiting a renewal decision at CBS. It joins CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd in being cancelled upon the conclusion of their current seasons. Moreover, the network has picked up two more dramas in addition to NCIS: Origins for next season - Matlock starring Kathy Bates and Watson starring Morris Chestnut.
