Production has begun today in Greece on the original drama series House of David, the first series from a new partnership between Amazon Prime Video and The Wonder Project. The lead roles have been cast following a four-month international search.
The series details the ascent of biblical icon, David, who eventually becomes the most famous king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he's destined to replace. For one leader to rise, another must fall.
The drama will star Michael Iskander (Kimberly Akimbo) as David; Ali Suliman (Jack Ryan) as King Saul; Ayelet Zurer (Losing Alice) as Queen Ahinoam; Stephen Lang (Avatar) as Samuel; Martyn Ford (Mortal Kombat 2) as Goliath; Indy Lewis (Industry) as Mychal; Yali Topol (The Tattooist of Auschwitz) as Mirab; Ethan Kai (The Turkish Detective) as Jonathan; Oded Fehr (Star Trek: Discovery) as Abner; Louis Ferreira (Shogun) as Jesse; Davood Ghadami (Eastenders) as Eliab; and Ashraf Barhom (Tyrant) as Doeg.
Jon Erwin created the drama. He executive produces with Jonathan Walker, Jon Gunn, Justin Rosenblatt, Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev. Amazon MGM Studios, The Wonder Project, Lionsgate Television, Nomadic Pictures, Argonauts and Kingdom Story Company produce.
"House of David is our telling of a 3,000 year old hero's journey, and it all starts with our David, Michael Iskander," said Erwin. "Finding Michael and getting to work with him has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. Our entire cast is incredible, and I can't wait for a global audience to get to know them the way I do."
