USA Returns to Scripted Programming with Series Order for Drama 'The Rainmaker'

USA has today solidified plans to reenter the original scripted programming space with a series order for the drama The Rainmaker based on the novel by John Grisham. An episode count and premiere date window were not immediately announced.





Fresh out of law school, Rudy Baylor goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond as well as his law school girlfriend. Along with his boss and her disheveled paralegal, Rudy uncovers two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client's son.

Michael Seitzman (Code Black) developed the drama. He will executive produce with Grisham, Jason Richman, David Gernert and Jason Blum. Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television will produce.

Grisham's novel was previously adapted as a featured film directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1997. The film starred Matt Damon, Claire Danes, Jon Voight, Mary Kay Place, Mickey Rourke, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, Roy Scheider, Virginia Madsen and Teresa Wright.
